Wood Fence Maintenance Guide
Realistic care that keeps wood looking good
What Matters Most In This Climate
Sun dries finishes, humidity swells boards, and sprinklers leave mineral marks. The cure is simple. Keep finish in good shape, let the base breathe, and keep water off the face where you can.
Simple Care That Works
- Rinse and wipe when you see dust or sprinkler marks. A hose and soft brush are enough in most cases.
- Trim vegetation so plants and vines do not rest on the boards. Keep mulch a few inches away so the base dries out after rain.
- Aim sprinklers away from the fence. Hard water streaks fade finish faster than sun alone.

What To Avoid
After Heavy Weather
When To Reseal or Restain
Watch how water behaves. If it stops beading and starts soaking in, it is time to refresh the finish. In open sun that is often every two to three years. In
deep shade or heavy overspray areas, sooner makes sense. Use exterior products rated for high UV exposure.
Gate Tuneups You Can Do
Gates see the most movement. If one drags or latches tight, check hinge bolts and the striker alignment. Small turns usually bring it back into line. If it still feels off, we can tune it.
